No state-mandated education minimums are required for Assistant Teachers. However, specific early learning programs may require a high school diploma and credentials like a Child Development Associate (CDA) or the Early Childhood Ancillary Certificate (ECAC).
All Lead Teachers working in Type III child care centers need to have an ECAC as a minimum credential within 24 months of their start date as educators. Many centers will work with you to help you get your ECAC, and the training is free for most teachers at Type III centers.
